COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES
The College of Fisheries was merged with the College of Agriculture by virtue of the CSC Board Resolution No. 30, 1986, and now called the College of Agriculture and Fisheries. It is located at the main campus of the Catanduanes State University, with a 24-hectare farm in Calatagan Tibang and a 7-hectare fish farm in Palnab, Virac, Catanduanes. Said farms serve as instructional and research laboratory areas of the College. The mission of the College of Agriculture and Fisheries is derived from the educational needs of the people of the island province. To increase people’s understanding of the nature and natural processes in the areas of Agricultural Science, Biology, the use of natural resources and the environment through scientific inquiry and teaching within and beyond the classroom.
It shares the concern and responsibilities of other institutions of higher learning to provide optimal educational opportunities for the citizen of the province and region. The College of Agri-Fisheries take seriously its leadership role among the eight developing colleges. As part of the mission the administration and faculty are striving to that TPAE minimum requirements.
By the year 2004, the College of Agri-Fisheries shall become comprehensive and model state agricultural and fishery college in the island province of Catanduanes. The center of excellence for training in the fields of agriculture, agro-forestry and other related courses with primary concern on:
a. Impact in the community it serves.
b. Strong in agricultural science and advance development.
c. Future needs and sustainable agricultural development.
d. Advocate agro-industrial needs of the province and the region.
e. People empowerment it serves.
f. Promote a strong building
The College at present carries out its mission by offering two-degree and one-degree programs. Researches and community extension programs are directed to address the institutions major programs, improvement and the countryside present needs. The value of the College of Agri-Fisheries depends upon the continuous assessment and re-assessment of its role and the success it is aspiring for the citizen of the island and the region.
As invalid in the constitution, “The state shall protect and promote the rights of all citizens to quality education at all levels and shall take appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all. The College of Agri-Fisheries believes that the various curricular offerings, which are based on the educational needs of the people, it serves, as essential to the preparation of those who aspire to the positions of responsibility and meaningful participation in society’s affairs. The education is the best tool for new challenges and changing situation that ultimately to promote socio-economic condition of the clientele it serves.
To prepare professionals with general competencies in carrying out science, art, ethics management and entrepreneurial business in the production, processing and marketing of plants, animals and other organisms utilized for food, fiber, recreation, biomedicine, industrial and other purpose within the context of an integrated and sustainable agriculture resource system.
1. Implement updated curricular program to produce graduates with general competencies in agriculture.
2. Conceptualize and formulate system-oriented strategic plans and programs for agriculture development through research activities.
3. Formulate and implement management plan for improved sustained productivity.
4. Conduct innovative research to generate good agricultural practices and desirable products.
5. Enhance working knowledge through technical and scientific exposures of students.
6. Develop and cultivate collaborative and productive work attitudes.
