CSU Leads International Coastal Clean Up in Catanduanes

Catanduanes State University with National Service Training Program (NSTP) headed by Dr. Gemma Samas led the International Coastal Clean Up held on September 20, 2019 participated by all agencies in the province of Catanduanes.

54 agencies in the provinces joined the International Clean up in different coastal areas in the municipality of Virac.

The coastal clean up started with a short program at Provincial Capitol of Catanduanes. Mr. Ferdinand L. Baltazar, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) delivered the welcome remarks followed by short messages started by Virac Mayor Hon. Sinforoso Sarmiento, Jr, followed by Dr. Lily P. Custodio, CSU Vice President for Research, Extension and Production Affairs, and Hon. Shirley A. Abundo, Acting Governor, Province of Catanduanes.

“The greatest danger to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it. I am glad that finally we have awaken our senses and that we finally woke up from this nightmare”,Dr. Custodio said. All others called for everyone to be responsible especially in throwing garbages to the ocean.

After the speeches of key persons. Dr. Gemma Samas gave a brief orientation and announced the designated areas for clean up of different agencies.

This year is the 34th International Coastal Clean Up initiated by Ocean Conservancy organization.
