CSU holds 3rd Abaca Farmer’s Forum


The Third Staging of the Catanduanes State University -led Abaca Stakeholders and Farmers Consultative Forum was held at the Caramoran Central Elementary School at Toytoy, Caramoran, Catanduanes on August 11, 2018. Attendees were abaca farmers from Caramoran and Pandan northern towns, together with respective Municipal Local Chief Executives from Caramoran and Pandan, Hon. Agnes B. Popa, and Hon. Raul Tabirara, respectively; other MLGU officials, representatives from the different line agencies in Catanduanes, the DOST, DOLE, DTI, DA-OPAg, PLDC, and the Provincial Local Government Unit led by Hon. Joseph C. Cua represented by Mr. Roger Magtangob, Consultant in the Office of the Provincial Governor. Also present as Keynote Speaker was Hon. Cesar V. Sarmiento, Congressman of the Lone District of Catandunes with Atty. Jorge V. Sarmiento, CSU -BOR Member.

Topics discussed by respective and competent speakers from invited line agencies and the CSU were presented during the Forum Proper. A consultative meeting, workshop by group and parallel action setting clinched the event’s program. Dr. Minerva I. Morales, led the CSU contingent in facilitating the event in cooperation with the RDS and Extension offices under Dr. Jimmy T. Masagca and Dr. Marilyn B. Panti, respectively. The event offers opportunities for open, constructive dialogue among stakeholders concerned with abaca agriculture and natural fiber production.
The consultative meeting provides a unique avenue for abaca fiber producers, researchers, scientists, extensionists, and government representatives to explore possibilities for working together towards more sustainable environment-friendly and economically viable partnership for the future.
